| see photos of this initiation |

Khensure Rinpoche Tenzin Gyaltsen, former Abbot of Drepung Gomang Monastery and resident Abbot of the Tibetan Cultural Center, will give the White Tara Initiation on Sunday, May 5, 2002 at 1 p.m. This empowerment will take place at the Tibetan Cultural Center, 3655 Snoddy Road, Bloomington, Indiana. Khensure Rinpoche has asked us to tell you that if you wish to take the White Tara Empowerment on Sunday you should obstain from eating meat from one day before.

There is no charge for taking this initiation; however, participants are requested to make a $20 donation, if at all possible. This small sum of money will be sent directly to Drepung Gomang Monastery and will support a refugee monk at the monastery for one month.

White Tara is often referred to as the Mother of all the Buddhas; she represents the motherly aspect of compassion. Her seven eyes (three on her face, one on the palm of each hand, and one on the sole of each foot) symbolize the vigilance of her compassion. Seated in the meditation posture, her right hand is in the gesture of supreme generosity and her left holds the lotus of compassion with the mudra of the three jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha). White Tara brings the devotee long life and protects against all dangers.
