 Medicine Buddha Mandala

From December 12 through December 15, 1999, monks from Drepung Gomang Monastery created a Medcine Buddha sand mandala at the Tibetan Cultural Center.  This mandala is being preserved as an example of Tibetan Culture in accord with the mission statement of the Tibetan Cultural Center.

Below are some pictures that show the process of making the mandala.

 

At the completion of the mandala, the monks conducted a ceremony in which they dismantled the Amitayus mandala that had been created in 1993 by monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery and preserved at the TCC as an example of the art of Tibet.  Below are some pictures of the dismantling and the throwing of the sacred sand into the pond at the TCC.
